# Bill creators through the App Store

> How Fanvue bills creators for your app with pricing plans and one-time items, the 20/80 revenue split, and where to read subscription state.

App Store billing lets a listed app charge creators through Fanvue. You define pricing plans and one-time items in the Developer Area, Fanvue hosts checkout, and you receive 80% of each charge; Fanvue keeps 20% as the platform fee. Amounts are integers in [USD minor units (cents)](/docs/payments/overview#units-and-currency).

Every purchase is made by and billed to the creator account that is signed in, including when an agency team member is switched into a managed creator's profile. An agency account acting as itself can only own apps that review has marked agency-installable. There's no guest purchase to reconcile. If you want fans to pay, use [checkout links](/docs/checkout/create) or payments inside a [fan experience](/docs/app-store/experiences/payments) instead.

## Two ways to charge

| | Pricing plans | One-time items |
| - | - | - |
| Best for | App access: tiers, Pro plans | Consumables: credit packs, boosts |
| Billing | Monthly subscription | One-off, repurchasable |
| Price | Free, or \$3.99 to \$500.00 | \$3.99 to \$500.00 |
| Limit per app | 5 plans | 10 items |
| Sold through | Listing plan picker, [deeplinks](/docs/payments/app-billing/deeplinks), `checkoutUrl` | `checkoutUrl` only |

You configure both on your app's **Pricing** tab in the Developer Area. [Pricing plans](/docs/payments/app-billing/pricing-plans) and [One-time items](/docs/payments/app-billing/one-time-items) cover the details.

## The flow, end to end

<Steps>
  <Step title="Configure pricing">
    Add plans and items on the **Pricing** tab. Paid apps must be listed on the App Store.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Get approved">
    Plans show **Pending setup** and activate when your app [passes review](/docs/app-store/publishing-your-app).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Share">
    Send creators to your listing's plan picker, a deeplink, or the plan's `checkoutUrl` from `GET /apps/{appUuid}/subscription-status`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Receive webhooks">
    Grant access off `app.subscription.activated`; reconcile revenue off `app.payment.succeeded`. See [App events](/docs/webhooks/app/overview).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Gate access">
    Check `GET /apps/{appUuid}/subscription/me` server-side: `hasActiveSubscription`, with `currentPeriodEnd` and `cancelAtPeriodEnd` for when access ends.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Reconcile">
    Re-read state from `GET /apps/{appUuid}/payments` and the [subscription endpoints](/docs/payments/app-billing/subscription-status) when a delivery is missed.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Money and access are separate events

A subscription's initial charge emits both `app.payment.succeeded` with `billing_reason: subscription_initial` and `app.subscription.activated`. Grant access off the subscription event, and reconcile revenue off the payment event.
